The Formula

GPA = (Σ Grade Points × Credit Hours) ÷ (Σ Credit Hours)

Grade points: A=4.0, A-=3.7, B+=3.3, B=3.0, B-=2.7, C+=2.3, C=2.0, C-=1.7, D=1.0, F=0.

Worked Example

3 credits of English (B = 3.0): 9 grade points. 4 credits of Calc (A- = 3.7): 14.8. 3 credits of Bio (C+ = 2.3): 6.9. Total: 30.7 ÷ 10 credits = 3.07 GPA.

Target GPA Reverse Math

To raise a 3.07 GPA across 30 cumulative credits to 3.30 by end of next 15-credit term, you need an average of 3.76 (between A- and A) on the new courses.

How does a W (withdraw) affect GPA?
